This superb new album from bluegrass legend Larry Sparks finds one of the genre's great traditionalists in magnificent form. A 2015 Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame inductee and veteran of more than six decades in music, Sparks combines his unmistakable voice and masterful guitar playing with a full band for ten tracks of heartfelt bluegrass.

Way Back When brings together brand-new material, classic songs and gospel favourites, including the nostalgic title track, Tennessee Border, Since I Met You Baby and The Fields of Gettysburg. Sparks also revisits songs associated with Hank Williams, Gene Autry, Flatt & Scruggs and Arthur Smith, while Sleepin' Lula provides a joyous instrumental showcase for the mandolin, banjo and fiddle.

For lovers of traditional bluegrass, this is the real thing. Larry Sparks remains a remarkable performer, bringing decades of experience and an unmistakable personal style to every song. A beautifully played collection that honours the roots of bluegrass while sounding completely alive in the present day, Way Back When is highly recommended.
