Skeeter Davis • The End Of The World 2CD

This comprehensive double-CD collection traces Skeeter Davis' solo recording career from 1957 to 1962, bringing together 60 tracks across her singles, B-sides and album recordings. Following her early success as one half of The Davis Sisters, Davis emerged as a distinctive country vocalist whose expressive delivery helped carry Nashville music into the charts. The collection includes her major hits “(I Can't Help You) I'm Falling Too”, “My Last Date (With You)” and her signature song, “The End Of The World”.

Disc one gathers the singles and their flipsides, following Davis from early country recordings such as “Lost To A Geisha Girl” and “Set Him Free” through to the sophisticated crossover sound of the early 1960s. Disc two explores her album work, with songs including “Your Cheatin' Heart”, “Under Your Spell Again”, “A Little Bitty Tear” and “Gonna Find Me A Bluebird”. Fans of classic Nashville voices such as Patsy Cline, Jim Reeves and Don Gibson will appreciate this richly detailed portrait of country music in transition.

With 60 recordings spanning the formative years of Davis's solo career, this two-disc set is an excellent choice which brings together familiar hits and less frequently heard recordings in one substantial collection, documenting the development of a singer whose music reached well beyond the traditional country audience.
