The Cramps at their rawest and most gloriously unhinged! The Last Record II - Tränsylvåñan Täpes MCMLXXVIII brings together a collection of 1977/78 recordings, with the first side presenting studio demos and the second side capturing the band live at Max's Kansas City, New York, in 1978. The demo side includes such Cramps favourites as Weekend On Mars, Rockin' Bones, I Can't Hardly Stand It, Lonesome Town, Uranium Rock and Strychnine.
The studio recordings carry the suitably murky production credits of Chris Spedding and Alex Chilton, while the live side plunges headfirst into the band's primitive garage-punk and psychobilly sound. Jungle Hop, Domino, Everybody's Movin', Problem Child and Voodoo Doll lead into Rock On The Moon, Human Fly, TV Set and Mystery Plane, capturing the sinister, sweaty atmosphere of the band's early live performances. The sleeve's description of a freezing night in the Carpathian Mountains may be wonderfully gothic nonsense, but the music itself needs no supernatural embellishment.
This pressing is limited to just 250 copies on black vinyl, with a matte cover and grey label stickers. Eighteen tracks split between studio demos and live recordings, featuring some of the most recognisable material from the Cramps' formative period. An atmospheric and suitably rough-edged collector's pressing for anyone who likes their garage rock with a little Transylvanian fog.
