The Sabrejets finally make their long-overdue debut on vinyl, and it has been well worth the wait. With rockabilly now well into its eighth decade, it's becoming increasingly rare to discover a band that genuinely feels special. The Sabrejets are one of those bands. Despite relatively few releases and only occasional appearances outside their native Belfast, they've quietly earned a reputation as one of the finest modern rockabilly acts around. They happily borrow the classic riffs and familiar rock 'n' roll ingredients, yet somehow mould them into a sound that's unmistakably their own. Opening with You're Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone, a track that could easily be the album's standout, is a bold move. The impressive thing is that the quality never lets up. From the driving Faster Than The Eye Can See through to the superb title track that closes the album, the standard remains remarkably high throughout. Twelve of the fifteen songs are Sabrejets originals, with Nigel Dixon's Someone's On The Loose providing a fittingly energetic choice among the three cover versions. Strong songwriting, superb guitar work and a warm, authentic production combine to make The Restless Kind one of those albums that rewards repeat listens. Whether your taste leans towards Crazy Cavan, The Cramps, the Memphis Sun sound or the classic Johnny Burnette style, there's every chance this outstanding album will earn a permanent place in your collection.
