The Deltas were one of the wildest bands to emerge from the dark side of the early-1980s Rockabilly Revival, where sweaty underground clubs provided a breeding ground for the harder, rougher sounds that would soon develop into Psychobilly. While the more commercial Rockabilly acts were enjoying chart success and television appearances, The Deltas were delivering a much more unruly brand of Rockabilly, helping lay the groundwork for the Psychobilly explosion that followed.
Tuffer Than Tuff was the band's third studio album, by which time the original three-piece had been expanded with ex-Polecats guitarist Boz Boorer and John Buck. The result is a ferocious collection of Rockabilly with a distinctly wild edge, from the driving Where'd You Stay Last Nite?, Teenage Ball and Tuffer Than Tuff through to the suitably chaotic Gimme The Drugs, Mad For It and London Girls.
This reissue is expanded with the complete Live & Rockin' - X Certificate album as bonus tracks, bringing the total to 22 tracks. The live material captures The Deltas in full underground Rockabilly mode, with Pie 'n' Mash, How Come You Do Me?, This Train Is Bound For Glory and Whip It Up adding another dose of raw live energy. With the band's back catalogue having been out of print for some time, this long-awaited reissue is a welcome return to the racks for one of the craziest and most entertaining bands of the early British Psychobilly era.
