Buddy Holly & The Crickets - Alternative "Chirping" Crickets 10" LP
The "Chirping" Crickets was regarded as a classic album almost from the moment of its release in the USA, Great Britain and Australia, but The Crickets were unhappy with some of the overdubbed vocal-group backing that had been added to their recordings. This fascinating 10-inch LP presents the original album remixed in stereo with those backing vocals removed, offering a different perspective on one of the great early rock 'n' roll albums.
The vocal backings had mostly been overdubbed while The Crickets were touring during the first flush of success that followed the number one hit That'll Be The Day, and only a small number of the original undubbed versions survived. Crickets drummer J. I. Allison was involved in the painstaking project to improve the album, which took several years to complete. The inner sleeve includes detailed notes from Allison recalling the songs and recording sessions, together with information about the de-mixing and re-mixing process.
