Snooks Eaglin • New Orleans Street Singer - Great R&B Sounds of New Orleans 2CD

Blind from infancy and blessed with an astonishing memory, Snooks Eaglin earned the nickname "The Human Jukebox" thanks to his extraordinary repertoire of songs. Raised in New Orleans and performing alongside a young Allen Toussaint while still in his teens, Eaglin developed one of the most distinctive guitar styles in American music, effortlessly blending Folk, Blues, Rhythm & Blues and New Orleans traditions.

This outstanding two-CD collection traces the earliest years of his recording career. Disc One features the celebrated New Orleans Street Singer recordings made by folklorist Dr. Harry Oster, capturing Eaglin's remarkable performances as a solo singer and guitarist. Disc Two follows his transition into electric Blues and Rhythm & Blues, including his complete Imperial Records singles issued under the name Ford Eaglin between 1960 and 1962.

From traditional Folk songs and Country Blues standards to infectious New Orleans R&B, New Orleans Street Singer showcases the astonishing versatility of one of New Orleans' most original musical voices.
