Sleepy LaBeef • Lonely - The Early Years 1956-1962 CD
Standing 6'6" and built like a tank, Sleepy LaBeef was one of the true giants of American roots music. During the 1980s and '90s he became a firm favourite with UK and European audiences, his marathon live shows drawing on an enormous repertoire of Rock 'n' Roll, Rockabilly, Rhythm & Blues, Country and Gospel.
Long before becoming an international live attraction, Sleepy launched his recording career in the mid-1950s. This collection brings together his earliest recordings, made between 1956 and 1962, including many tracks that remained unreleased at the time.
Several songs were revisited during these sessions, resulting in multiple versions of favourites such as Lonely. Rather than sounding repetitive, they provide a fascinating insight into an artist refining his style, with each performance offering a fresh interpretation of the song.
Packed with rare recordings and early performances that remain difficult to find elsewhere on CD, this collection captures the formative years of one of Rockabilly's most distinctive voices. An essential release for fans of classic Rock 'n' Roll, Rockabilly and American roots music.
