Live At Rockpalast CD + DVD

Rockpile • Live at Rockpalast (1980) CD + DVD

Captured live at Hamburg’s Markthalle on 12 January 1980, Rockpile deliver a blistering performance. Featuring Dave Edmunds on guitar and vocals, Nick Lowe on bass and vocals, Billy Bremner on guitar and vocals, and Terry Williams on drums, this CD + DVD set captures the group’s irresistible mix of rockabilly, pub rock and rootsy rhythm and blues.

The 17-song set races through favourites including “I Knew the Bride”, “Switchboard Susan”, “Crawling from the Wreckage”, “Trouble Boys” and “Girls Talk”, alongside Nick Lowe’s “So It Goes” and rock ’n’ roll classics “Promised Land” and “Let It Rock”. The performance also includes “You’ll Never Get Me Up in One of Those”, written by Mickey Jupp, and “Girls Talk”, written by Elvis Costello. The CD presents the remastered stereo soundtrack, while the region-free NTSC DVD features the restored concert with stereo and 5.1 surround-sound options.

Rockpile’s combination of tight musicianship, sharp songwriting and high-octane live energy is on full display here. With the complete concert on both CD and DVD, this set is a treat for fans of Dave Edmunds, Nick Lowe and good-time rock ’n’ roll, preserving a performance from a band whose live reputation far exceeded its brief recording career.
