The Hullabalues deliver a superb set of 1950s-style Rockin' Blues on Reflectin' The Blues, with this British four-piece bringing plenty of energy and authentic old-school feel to fifteen tracks. The band features ex-members of The Backbeats, so there's some serious experience behind the playing as well as a genuine understanding of the music.
The album draws heavily on the classic Blues and early Rock 'n' Roll sounds of the 1950s, mixing tough electric Blues with a good dose of Rockin' attitude. There's a great selection of covers from some of the giants of the genre, including Elmore James, Jimmy Reed and Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, alongside original material that fits naturally into the set.
Things get off to a flying start with The Honeydripper, Tip On In and Cat Squirrel, before moving through classics such as Shame Shame Shame, Talk To Me Baby, Walkin' By Myself and I'm A Lover Not A Fighter. The Hullabalues also show their own Rockin' side with Ride & Roll and We're Gonna Rock.
If you like your Blues with a strong Rock 'n' Roll pulse, Reflectin' The Blues is well worth investigating. A lively British take on the sounds of the American Blues masters, with fifteen tracks that capture the spirit of the music without turning it into a museum piece.
