Planet Obscure is the ninth album from long-running American Psychobilly and Rockabilly outfit The Quakes, bringing together material that stretches across different periods of the band's long history. Some of the songs date back more than 20 years, having remained unfinished or unused until they found their way onto this fascinating collection.
The album moves between the different sides of The Quakes' sound, from the dark Psychobilly of Dark Shadows, It's A Curse and Streets Are So Lonely to the driving Wildcat, You're A Joke and Anti Social Girl. The set also includes the intriguingly titled Festa Do E Estica Puxa, while It's A Curse returns in an alternate version featuring Kitty Casket.
This repress comes in a four-panel Digipak and includes extra tracks not found on the original release. Alongside the album's 2013-era material are the Planet Obscure demo, the short and wonderfully strange March Of The Cloned Paul Romans and the 21-second Hey. With its mixture of older compositions, newer recordings and previously unavailable material, Planet Obscure offers an unusually broad snapshot of The Quakes' evolving Psychobilly sound.
