Los Straitjackets / The Fleshtones / Southern Culture on the Skids • Mondo Zombie Boogaloo CD

Three great American bands join forces for Mondo Zombie Boogaloo, a monster-sized celebration of surf rock, garage rock and Halloween-themed rock ’n’ roll. Featuring the twang-driven instrumentals of Los Straitjackets, the raw garage energy of The Fleshtones and the offbeat Southern roots-rock of Southern Culture on the Skids, this 15-track collection brings a gloriously spooky soundtrack to the party.

Monster-themed highlights include “It’s Monster Surfing Time”, “Ghoulman Confidential”, “Goo Goo Muck”, “Theme from Young Frankenstein” and “Theme from Halloween”. There’s also a suitably wild instrumental take on “¡Ghostbusters!”, the garage-rock howl of “Dracula a GoGo” and the three-band collaboration “Que Monstruos Son”. The mix of original songs, horror-film inspiration, surf-guitar twang and garage-rock attitude makes this a delightfully twisted celebration of rock ’n’ roll’s weird side.

Originally released in 2013 and now available again on CD, Mondo Zombie Boogaloo is tailor-made for Halloween parties, horror-film fans and anyone who likes their rock ’n’ roll with a little fuzz, a lot of twang and a monster-sized sense of humour. Whether you’re a fan of surf instrumentals, garage punk or wonderfully eccentric roots music, these three bands make a formidable team.
