Solid Smoke 96 is the first time on CD for this superb 1996 album from Mick Wigfall's excellent four-piece, featuring a heavyweight line-up of respected Rockabilly musicians. The band includes former Blue Cats guitarist Carlo Edwards, alongside Les Curtis and Ritchie Sticks, bringing together some of the finest musicians from the British Rockabilly scene.
The line-up also draws on members and former members of the Blue Cats, Blue Rhythm Boys, Number Nine and Bob & The Bearcats, while Paul Ansell of Number Nine and Jerome Van Gasteren, formerly of Tin Star Trio, make guest appearances. The result is a tight and experienced four-piece with plenty of pedigree behind it, delivering a strong set of Rockabilly and Rhythm & Blues.
From Mushy Peas, I'm Out and Cabbage Head through Only Chance, Lonely Weekends and Casting My Spell, the album keeps the emphasis firmly on strong songs and solid musicianship. Long Legged Girl, Western Union, Night Train, I Ain't Got You and Cryin' Over You complete a fine snapshot of Mick Wigfall's 1996 band, now available on CD for the first time.
