Thee Headcoatees • Man-Trap CD

Thee Headcoatees return with Man-Trap, a terrific collection of raw, infectious Garage Rock featuring all four of the band's distinctive vocalists. Kyra, Ludella Black, Debbie Green and Holly Golightly each take the lead on different tracks, giving the album plenty of variation while retaining the rough-edged, no-nonsense sound that made Thee Headcoatees such an essential part of the Medway Garage scene.

The album kicks off with Ludella Black's take on the Ramones classic The KKK Took My Baby Away, before Kyra takes the title track. Debbie Green handles Signals Of Love, while Holly Golightly takes over for The Double Axe and Modern Terms Of Abuse. Elsewhere, Ludella delivers Paint It Black and Jim Bowie, while the album continues to jump between different vocal styles and flavours of Garage Rock without ever losing its punch.

There are some interesting additions to the usual stripped-down attack, too, with James Taylor adding organ to Modern Terms Of Abuse and Richard Moore contributing strings to Becoming Unbecoming Me and Sex And Flies. From the darkly atmospheric Walking On My Grave and Fire In The Mountains through to the closing The Money Will Roll Right In, Man-Trap is a varied and highly enjoyable collection from four formidable Garage Rock vocalists.
