Dave Alvin delivers a superb live performance filmed for the legendary Austin City Limits television series on 29 January 1999. Recorded in Austin, Texas, this 64-minute performance captures Alvin and his excellent band tearing through a set that combines rootsy country rock, blues and Americana, including King Of California, Dry River, Blackjack David and the classic Fourth Of July.
The 13-track set mixes Dave Alvin originals with a couple of terrific covers, including Woody Guthrie's Do-Re-Me and Chuck Berry's Promised Land. Alvin is joined by a superb line-up featuring Chris Gaffney on accordion, Rick Shea on pedal steel, guitar and mandolin, Ted Roddy on harmonica, Joe Terry on keyboards and accordion, Gregory Boaz on bass and Bobby Lloyd Hicks on drums. The set also includes Barn Burnin', Border Radio, Abilene, Jubilee Train, Marie Marie and the atmospheric Out In California.
Originally filmed in 1999 and released on DVD, this 64-minute Live From Austin TX performance is presented in colour with stunning 5.1 surround sound. A terrific document of Dave Alvin in front of an appreciative live audience, and a great addition to any collection of American roots, country rock and live performance DVDs.
