The Kings Of Outer Space deliver a lively blast of British Psychobilly and Neo-Rockabilly on Cosmic Debris, combining the slap-bass attack and attitude of the classic '80s sound with enough modern influence to keep things fresh. This is a band that clearly knows its Psychobilly history, but isn't interested in simply copying it.
There's plenty here for fans of the old Klub Foot generation, with big slappin' bass sounds, energetic rhythms and catchy songs that have that instantly familiar Psychobilly bounce. At the same time, the songwriting gives Cosmic Debris its own identity, mixing darker moments with plenty of melody and humour.
The album gets off to a strong start with Ghost Town, followed by Nature Or Nurture, Imaginary Friend and the wonderfully titled Kosmik Kasanova. My Black Heart, Dog Day Heat and Girl In The Mask keep the momentum going, while Gloucester Road and Laika Come Home provide a suitably memorable finish.
With all thirteen songs self-penned and a good production that lets the band's energetic sound shine through, Cosmic Debris strikes a very nice balance between classic and contemporary Psychobilly. Recommended for anyone who likes their Rockin' music with plenty of slap bass, strong melodies and a little bit of outer-space weirdness.
