Mad Dog Cole • Kingdom Of The Scarecrow 10" LP (Red Clear Vinyl)
Mad Dog Cole, the former frontman of legendary ’80s psychobilly band The Krewmen, returns with Kingdom Of The Scarecrow, a six-track mini-album of brand-new recordings released in 2015. Pressed on striking red-clear 10-inch vinyl, this release marked another chapter in the career of one of old-school psychobilly's most distinctive voices.
With Mark Cole on vocals and songwriting, Loz Hawkins on guitar, James Bowen on bass and Dom Parr on drums, the band deliver six original tracks produced and engineered by Alan Wilson, who also adds organ to “Cherry Lips”. From the fast-moving opener “Bullet Holes” and the dark drive of “Lucifer” to the spooky “Cherry Lips” and closing blast “The Machine”, the mini-album brings together sharp songwriting and a classic psychobilly edge.
A fine choice for fans of The Krewmen and collectors of old-school British psychobilly, Kingdom Of The Scarecrow combines six original songs with a limited red-clear vinyl pressing and printed inner sleeve. A compact, colourful slice of Mad Dog Cole's solo work, it deserves a place in any collection of hard-driving psychobilly.
