Relive the sound of classic British rock ’n’ roll with John Leyton and The Western Star Years Vol. 1. Best known for his haunting chart-topper “Johnny Remember Me”, Leyton enjoyed a string of hit records in the early 1960s before building a successful acting career, appearing in classic films including The Great Escape and Von Ryan's Express. This 24-track collection brings together his later recordings with the Western All-Stars.
Produced by Alan Wilson, these sessions revisit the rock ’n’ roll sounds that made Leyton a familiar voice to British audiences. Alongside “Johnny Remember Me” and “Wild Wind”, the programme features interpretations of “Sweet Little Sixteen”, “Three Steps To Heaven”, “Sea Cruise”, “Kansas City” and “Return To Sender”, plus lesser-known favourites from his repertoire.
A rewarding collection for fans of British rock ’n’ roll and the enduring sound of the early 1960s, this CD offers 24 tracks from a distinctive voice in British music. Whether you remember John Leyton from his original hits or know him best from the big screen, these recordings make an entertaining addition to any collection.
