Oscar McLollie - Honey Jumpin' 1953-1960 CD

Oscar McLollie and The Honey Jumpers deliver a superb collection of irresistible 1950s Rhythm & Blues and early Rock 'n' Roll, bringing together 31 recordings from across his output for Class, Modern and Mercury Records. Although he never scored a national hit, McLollie enjoyed several local best-sellers and his records were also released in Canada, Jamaica, France, Belgium and the UK.

On record, The Honey Jumpers were largely top West Coast studio musicians, with tenor sax supremo Maxwell Davis often leading and arranging the sessions, alongside ensemble and backing vocals from The Flairs. McLollie's recordings were also covered by artists including Louis Prima, Louis Jordan and Charlie Ventura, some of whom enjoyed greater success with the material.

McLollie's music found a whole new audience on the Rock 'n' Roll circuit in the early 1980s, when a 10" LP collecting his best uptempo Modern recordings became a surprise underground hit and prompted a reissue of Roll Hot Rod Roll. Featuring favourites including The Honey Jump, Lolly Pop, Hot Banana and Roll Hot Rod Roll, this long-overdue collection brings Oscar McLollie and The Honey Jumpers back into the spotlight.
