Big Kahuna and The Copa Cat Pack • Hawaiian Swing CD
Step into a tropical world of sophisticated Swing with Hawaiian Swing from Big Kahuna And The Copa Cat Pack. Led by master saxophonist, crooner and arranger Matt Catingub, aka The Big Kahuna, this fabulous 12-piece band brings together the excitement of Big Band Swing with the laid-back atmosphere and exotic flavours of Hawaii.
With no fewer than five saxophones in the line-up, the band produces a wonderfully full and punchy sound throughout these seventeen tracks. Catingub's arrangements are packed with energy and personality, while his smooth vocal style adds another dimension to a set that moves effortlessly between classic Swing, Jazz, Blues and Hawaiian favourites.
The repertoire includes Swing standards such as A Tisket A Tasket, Don't Be That Way, Stompin' At The Savoy and Night In Tunisia, alongside Hawaiian favourites including The Hukila Song, Pearly Shells, Blue Hawaii and Hawaiian War Chant. There's also plenty of Blues and late-night atmosphere in Every Day I Have The Blues, After Hours and Don'cha Go 'Way Mad.
Fun, stylish and superbly arranged, Hawaiian Swing captures the sound of a big band having a seriously good time. If you enjoy classic Swing, Big Band Jazz, vintage Hawaiian sounds or simply great musicianship played with plenty of personality, this is a hugely enjoyable album.
