34 twangy guitar instrumentals exhumed from Europe's deepest vaults!
Guitar instrumentals exploded in popularity across the US and UK during the late 1950s, inspired by the arrival of rock 'n' roll, and it wasn't long before Europe embraced the sound. Scandinavia, in particular, became a hotbed of twangy guitar instrumentals, with the scene reaching new heights after The Shadows' chart-topping success with Apache in 1960.
By 1961 and '62, Europe was awash with superb bands creating that unmistakable clean, echo-laden sound. This collection gathers 34 of the finest recordings from seven different countries, with a particular focus on Scandinavia and Denmark.
Very few of these records were released in the UK at the time. The notable exception was Sweden's The Spotnicks, who became stars in their own right, but countless other European groups were producing instrumentals every bit as exciting as their British contemporaries.
If you've never explored the world of Eurotwang, this is the perfect place to begin. Featuring superb performances by The Jumping Jewels, Die Playboys, Les Fantômes, The Cliffters and many more, this collection is packed with melodic guitar classics and hidden gems that deserve to be heard.
