Emanuela Hutter returns with Goose Bumps, a superb collection of vintage-inspired Rock ’n’ Roll and Rhythm & Blues recorded with the analogue warmth and authentic feel that has become a hallmark of her work. Produced by Jimmy Sutton, the album was recorded in Chicago with the Hi-Style approach, bringing together some of the finest musicians from the modern roots scene.
Hutter’s vocals are backed by the guitar of Joel Paterson, drums from Alex Hall and a stellar supporting cast, giving Goose Bumps a beautifully timeless sound that sits comfortably between Rockabilly, Rhythm & Blues and classic Rock ’n’ Roll. The album also features a guest appearance from JD McPherson on Everybody’s Valentine. Hutter is also, of course, the distinctive vocalist of The Hillbilly Moon Explosion, bringing that same unmistakable vocal character to this superb solo set.
With its immaculate musicianship, rich vintage production and Emanuela Hutter’s distinctive voice, Goose Bumps is a hugely enjoyable modern take on the sounds of the 1950s and early ’60s. This red vinyl LP is a particularly handsome edition and a fine addition to the collection, whether your tastes lean towards authentic Rockabilly, vintage R&B or the broader modern roots scene.
