Wilf Carter • The Dynamite Trail! - The Decca Years, 1954-58 CD
The Dynamite Trail! is a superb 30-track collection documenting the Decca recordings of Canadian Country music legend Wilf Carter from 1954 to 1958. Better known as Montana Slim, Carter was one of the great pioneers of Canadian Country music, and these recordings showcase his distinctive combination of traditional Country, Western Swing, yodelling and heartfelt roots music.
This generous collection gets straight into the classic Carter sound with One Golden Curl, My Mountain High Yodel, I'm Gonna Tear Down The Mailbox and Maple Leaf Waltz, before moving through a wonderful selection of songs including I Bought A Rock For A Rocky Mountain Girl, The Sunshine Bird, Kissin' On The Sly and the title track Dynamite Trail. There are plenty of superb yodelling performances too, including The Yodelin' Song, Silver Bell Yodel and Yodeling My Babies To Sleep.
For fans of classic Country, Western and Hillbilly music, The Dynamite Trail! is a substantial collection from one of the most important figures in the history of Canadian Country music. Thirty tracks of vintage recordings, mountain yodels, cowboy songs and timeless Country storytelling make this an excellent introduction to Wilf Carter's later-1950s work.
