The Delmonas turn up the volume on Delmonas 5!, their second full-length album, originally released in 1986 and reissued on white vinyl in 2014. This British garage-rock gem combines tough girl-group vocals, primitive beat music and raw, fuzz-edged energy, drawing on the sounds of 1950s rock ’n’ roll and 1960s garage rock.
The revamped line-up features Miss Ida Red and Miss Ludella Black, backed by Billy Childish, Russ Wilkins and John Agnew. Childish's songwriting features prominently on originals including “Black Elk Speaks”, “I Feel Like Giving In” and “Jealousy”, alongside spirited interpretations of “Why Don't You Smile Now”, and the rock ’n’ roll classic “Hound Dog”. The result is a louder, harder-hitting sound than the group's earlier recordings, with plenty of attitude and a wonderfully unpolished garage-band feel.
Essential listening for fans of garage punk, vintage girl-group sounds and the Medway scene. The white vinyl pressing adds a striking visual touch for collectors, while the thirteen-track programme delivers a potent mix of original songs and vintage-inspired covers. A great addition for followers of Billy Childish's musical world and anyone who likes their garage rock direct, spirited and gloriously rough around the edges.
