Originally recorded in Herne Bay in 1983, After School Session catches the legendary The Milkshakes at their raw, energetic best. This second album finds the Medway Garage Kings delivering a potent mixture of primitive Garage Rock, Beat and Rock 'n' Roll, with Billy Childish and Mickey Hampshire responsible for the majority of the original material.
From the driving Shimmy Shake, I Can Tell and More Honey through to Soldiers Of Love, El Salvador, Let's Stomp and Jaguar, the album is packed with short, sharp and infectious performances. The stripped-down production and mono recording capture the band's loose, immediate character, while covers including Shimmy Shake, I Can Tell, Soldiers Of Love, Let's Stomp and Cadillac add further variety to the set.
A key release from the early Medway scene, After School Session remains a superb example of The Milkshakes' rough-edged approach to Garage Rock and their ability to turn vintage influences into something entirely their own.
