Compendium Of Weird is a remarkable collection of previously unreleased recordings from The Revillos, bringing together 16 gloriously eccentric tracks from one of Britain's most distinctive Punk Rock 'n' Roll outfits. With Fay Fife on vocals and Farfisa organ and Eugene Reynolds handling vocals and saxophone, the album captures the band's wonderfully strange combination of frantic rhythms, catchy melodies, wild instrumentation and completely individual sense of humour.
The material ranges from the frantic opener Boom Boom Boom Boom (Everybody Fall Down) through the manic Can I Have Some?, Caveman Raveman and Cool Jerk to the sprawling Hellbent. Revillos favourites such as Scuba Scuba and I Wanna Be Your Man sit alongside the previously unheard Heaven Fell, Big Boss, Take Off, Mysterious Mutilators and Rocking Goose, with the band's distinctive line-up augmented by an assortment of suitably eccentric instrumentation.
Almost the entire album was previously unreleased, making Compendium Of Weird a particularly fascinating addition to The Revillos catalogue. The sole exception is Scuba Scuba, which appears here in its Japanese-language version and had previously been issued on Yeah Yeah. Originally released in 2019, this is a wonderfully oddball collection of lost and overlooked Revillos recordings, packed with the band's trademark Punk energy, New Wave eccentricity and irresistible pop sensibility.
