White Stag is a fascinating collection of previously unreleased recordings from Beltane Fire, the band formed in 1985 by members of rockabilly legends The Blue Cats. Moving away from the traditional Rock 'n' Roll scene, Beltane Fire took their rockabilly roots in a far more ambitious direction, combining them with a diverse range of influences to create what was described at the time as an "epic wide-screen sound".
Signed to major label CBS, Beltane Fire released just one album, Different Breed, along with four singles, before the band disappeared far sooner than their considerable potential suggested they should. The 16 tracks on White Stag were recorded between 1986 and 1989 and represent the material that would have formed the basis of the band's second album, making this a remarkable glimpse of the direction Beltane Fire were taking.
With tracks including Love Or Justice, White Stag, Where My Father Walked, Snow Leopard, Southern Wilds and Running To The Light, this is a very different side of musicians better known for their work with The Blue Cats. Clint Bradley fans will also find plenty of interest here, making White Stag an essential release for anyone fascinated by the musical evolution of British Rockabilly musicians beyond the traditional revival scene.
