This DVD series presents Country Music shows filmed for US military television networks, produced in Nashville under the supervision of legendary producer Owen Bradley. The quality is unbelievably high – there is no better footage of the young Johnny Cash anywhere. Outstanding also are the performances by Marty Robbins and his band, Flatt & Scruggs and Patsy Cline: rounded up by charming and funny recruiting cartoons. Indispensable! Although there was mandatory two-year military service throughout the 1950s and early 1960s. The U.S. armed forces still felt the need to recruit career soldiers. To that end, they hired the services of a man named Charlie Brown to produce recruiting programs. That appeared first on radio and then on television. Dubbed "Country Style USA" the shows used the top Country recording stars of the day who would sing a few songs, and then break for an officer to make a pitch for a military career. In 1957, the concept was expanded from radio to television, and the TV recruiting shows ran until 1961. Today, they provide one of the very few visual records of 1950s country music stars in their prime. Unseen for decades, these films capture the all-time greatest Country stars of the day singing their greatest hits. These classic performances represent the only chance that most of us will ever have of seeing these giants of country music – ‘live’ and at the very top of their game. The picture and sound quality from the DVD-Series The Country Style USA is crystal clear, and there are mini-biographies and rare photos to round out the experience.
