February 3 1959 always is remembered as 'the day the music died' - Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper together with their pilot were all killed in a plane crash whilst on their Winter Dance Party tour. This tribute album gathers some of their greatest recordings, along with tracks from other artists that were taking part on the tour, Dion and the Belmonts, Frankie Sardo and Waylon Jennings. Also there are tribute songs from Eddie Cochran, Ray Campi, Benny Barnes and Hershel Almond, as well as excerpts from period radio broadcasts relaying the devastating news.
