Jimmy had just a handful of hit singles compared to his more distinguished brother Joe.
Jimmy's raw Rhythm & Blues sound was distinctly different to the smoother sound of his elder brother, but both brothers have key recordings that give them equal stature amongst influential R&B performers of the 1940s and '50s.
Jimmy's discs present a sound which is far closer to the spirit of rock 'n' roll than many of the discs cited as being influences on the rock 'n' roll explosion.
