On Bended Knee : The Birth Of Swamp Pop 2-CD
An unlikely fusion of Cajun, Zydeco, Rhythm & Blues, Rock 'n' Roll and Country, Swamp Pop emerged in the mid 1950s and was largely pioneered by young white Cajuns and black Creoles.
It wasn’t called Swamp Pop at that time - at first it didn’t possess a separate identity.
Stylistically, Swamp Pop owes much to New Orleans R&B, being readily identifiable by its piano triplets, plaintive melodies, bluesy guitar licks, rolling bass and a horn section, all underpinned by a strong Rhythm & Blues backbeat.
Featured artists include Bobby Charles, Joe Hudson, Jimmy Clanton, Warren Storm, Jivin’ Gene, Johnnie Allan, Rod Bernard, Dale Houston, Margaret Lewis, Tibby Edwards, Skip Stewart, Gene Thomas and many others.
