Music City Vocal Groups volume 2 CD
Music City Vocal Groups Volume 2 - Rock 'n' Roll It, Mambo Stroll It CD
The Music City label of Berkeley, California was known principally for its highly prized quotient of 1950s vocal group releases.
Now the contents of the company's voluminous vault have been liberated, doo wop fans and 1950s aficionados of all stripes can rejoice in finally hearing the countless undocumented masters and recordings owner Ray Dobard amassed during his heyday as a pioneering black entrepreneur.
Rock 'n' Roll It Mambo Stroll It CD is the second excursion into the Music City Vocal Group category with the focus on the uptempo side of the genre.
Music City DooWop, and groups from the San Francisco Bay Area in general, is known for a bluesier, rougher-hewn tenor - a street sound which accurately reflects the tastes of the local black community of the mid-1950s.
The label came to prominence with three numbers closely associated with the vocal group field, and all regional hits, if not national smashes.
The Midnights Annie Pulled A Hum-Bug, The Rovers Ichi-Bon Tami Dachi and most significantly W-P-L-J by the 4 Deuces all exemplify the witty brand of Doo Wop that the notoriously parsimonious Ray Dobard produced.
