Ashes of Love - Greatest Recordings 1949-1962 2CD
Brother Acts have always been a staple of Country music going right back to the music's earliest days.
There have been considerably fewer Brother-In-Law Acts, and of those that there have been none has ever been as successful as the duo of Johnnie Wright and Jack Anglin.
The 12 hits that Johnnie and Jack placed on the Billboard Country Charts between 1950 and 1962 barely begin to hint at how popular they were in their heyday, or how influential they were on dozens of other later twosomes.
On this double disc set you will find almost every secular single and a smattering of the gospel 45s that J&J released between 1949 and 1962, along with their much-acclaimed 1959 album.
Ashes Of Love starts with their earliest classics and hits and ends with their final recordings as a duo in 1962.
Jack Anglin died in a car crash while on his way to the funeral of his friends Patsy Cline, Cowboy Copas and Hawkshaw Hawkins, but Johnny Wright carried on making hits for many years thereafter.
He continued to tour right up until 2000 with his equally legendary wife Kitty Wells, who can also be heard in three part harmony on many of the early selections here.
Whether they were hits or not, many of these songs, including the title track, have achieved classic status through multiple revivals by other artists.
If you want to hear some proper Hillbilly Harmonies, not to mention some of the best country records of the 1950s, you have found the (W)right CD!
