Joe "Mr Google Eyes" August
Life Can Be A Hard Road To Travel CD
Joe August, from New Orleans - known as “Google Eyes” because he had an enthusiastic eye for the ladies - was a popular Rhythm and Blues singer between the late 1940s and early '60s.
He recorded prolifically between 1949 and 1961 for ten different record labels, including Coleman, Columbia, OKeh, DeLuxe, Duke and Instant Records.
Although he never registered a national hit, Joe enjoyed significant regional successes with Poppa Stoppa’s Be Bop Blues, No Wine No Women, Rock My Soul, Oh What A Fool and Lead Us On, the latter two recorded with The Johnny Otis Band, and was a hugely popular live performer.
This is the first collection of Joe August’s work to be issued on CD, and much of this material is almost impossible to find elsewhere.
