The 5 Royales fused elements of Gospel, Jump Blues, R&B and Doo-Wop together to become a hugely influential link in the early evolution of Rhythm & Blues and Rock 'n' Roll.
They were billed with the 5 in quotation marks in acknowledgement that they generally had six band members.
The second in a two-volume set, this 30 track collection traces their career from 1957 to 1962, and includes a number of regional and national hits, including a trio of songs, Think, Dedicated To The One I Love and Tell The Truth, which were successfully covered by James Brown, The Shirelles, and Ray Charles respectively.
