Clifford signed to Bow Records at age 15, releasing a few singles without finding success.
He moved to with Columbia Records, where his first single for the label, Hello Mr. Moonlight, failed to chart.
The follow-up Baby Sittin' Boogie became a big hit in the US, peaking at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The record became a million seller, and Clifford started to appeared on TV and toured the UK with Freddy Cannon and Dion.
