Our chart this month includes several of new 4-disc sets which offer a generous selection of original recordings from legendary artists from the Rock 'n' Roll era.
Heading the Rock 'n' Roll chart is a set from Marvin Rainwater which includes the entire contents of three original album releases, augmented with a wealth of bonus tracks taken from his non-album singles.
Marvin Rainwater scored two UK hit singles - "Whole Lotta Woman" reached No.1 in March 1958, followed by "I Dig You Baby" which climbed into the Top 20 in June the same year. He enjoyed further successes in the USA where he also charted with "Gonna Find Me a Bluebird" in 1957 and "Half Breed" in 1959. Also of these are included in the collection.
Other new releases in this series which have made our chart come in the form of Rhythm & Blues legend Hank Ballard & The Midnighters, Skiffle king Lonnie Donegan, Country singer and guitarist Merle Travis, and a 100 track round-up of 1962 releases on the Mercury label which features Johnny Preston, Little Richard, Rusty Draper, Young Jessie, Clyde McPhatter, Jivin' Gene, Paul Peek and many others.
