Chuck and The Hulas
All Good Pirates Go To Hawaii CD
Second album from the Frantic Flintstones/Sharks side project Chuck & The Hulas featuring the crazy Chuck Harvey on vocals and guitar-ace Alan Wilson.
With two of the Psychobilly scene's best known figures collaborrating, you know it's a winner.
Review by SIMON NOTT: I don’t know what it is about albums by Chuck Harvey, he gets away with what nobody else could. The genuine drug and booze battered lunatic of rockabilly has recorded an album of songs loosely based on fun and frolics in Hawaii, mostly classic songs just covered in Chuck’s inimitable fashion. There’s a smattering of reggae, rockabilly and country all performed with aplomb with some top notch musicians on double bass, Ukulele, Lap Steel and ‘Unprotected’ Sax! Quite how those involved kept a straight face as our hero belted ‘Remember You’re A Hula’ out, it’s a loosely veiled 1970s kids TV programme theme tune, aided by booze and pharmaceuticals no doubt. It’s fun, is a party album and it’s out while the snow around Western Star studio is a foot deep.
