The pick of this month's new releases come from the stars of the current Rock 'n' Roll and Rockabilly scene, with the top 4 albums of the Rockabilly chart coming from British artists Darrel Higham, Bob Butfoy, Glenn Doran and the Prairie Echoes and Australian band The Lincolns.
The Lincolns, from Adelaide, have become one of the top names on the Rock 'n' Roll scene - propelled by some superb album releases and regular visits to Europe where they are now held in very high esteem. Their two previous albums were released in the UK, but Hundred Dollar Bill is an imported Australian release which presents sixteen superb tracks of finest high energy 1950s inspired Teddyboy Rock 'n' Roll. It is melodic, atmospheric and totally rockin' throughout. The Lincolns have everything going for them - not only do they sound great, but they also capture the Teddy Boy look in a very cool way.
Darrel Higham has been very prolific for the last two decades, not only releasing his own material, but appearing as a band member or session musician for countless other artists. Most notable was his contribution in the success of his ex-wife Imelda May, and since their split Higham has added another two solo albums to his ever expanding body of work.
Higham is also featured on the debut album "Deliverance" by Jack Rabbit Slim frontman Bob Butfoy, which notably also features ace rockabilly drummer Rob Tyler who is known for his work with Restless and Dave Phillips among others.
The Rockabilly/Hillbilly crossover sound is currently enjoying something of a revival, and one of the best bands to come out of it are Glenn Doran and the Prairie Echoes. They have been busy with festival appearances and already made their mark with two vinyl singles. "Wild About Your Lovin'" is the much anticipated debut album which perfectly captured their blend of authentic Hillbilly and Country Rockabilly with a great mix of originals and well performed vintage cover songs. The superb vocals and harmonies are augmented by excellent steel guitar and fiddle.
For 1950s Rock 'n' Roll fans, the series of great value 4-CD sets continues with new releases from Bobby Darin and Santo & Johnny, as well as a second "Rock 'n' Roll" volumes which gathers 100 more absolute classics of the era.
New Psychobilly releases come from Canada's Creepshow, British funsters The Highliners, and the full set from The Cramps 1981 show which produced the recording of "Tear It Up" which was used is the film "Urgh! A Music War".
